The Hillbenders At Bluegrass Underground

After a brief tour through the Cumberland Caverns, which was beautiful.   Karen, Greg, Stone and I quickly made our way to the Volcano Room where the Hillbenders were to be performing beginning at 1pm.  Since we had the Bucket List Package, one of the things we received was a lunch ticket.  While the Volcano Room was filling up, and since we had an hour before the concert was to begin we made our way back to the concession stand and pick out our goodies.  Now with food in hand, we returned to our seats which just so happened to be on the front row.

The Hillbenders performing a rock opera, was the best concert Stone and I have seen at Bluegrass Underground, a subterranean amphitheater 333' feet below McMinnville Tn.   This was by far the best one ever.  They were "high-energy" as they performed The Who's TOMMY.  Of course being on the front row was fabulous.  You almost felt as though you were part of the band.  If you haven't been to Bluegrass Underground, you should try it out.

As we are on tour we can see down in the Volcano room as the band is warming up and chairs are being set up for the concert.  The concert was completely full holding five hundred people.

The Secret Sisters Perform At Bluegrass Underground

Since 2008 music has been wafting throughout the Cumberland Caverns.  On this particular day, The Secret Sisters made their way from Muscle Shoals Alabama to perform for a cave chock-full of people and probably a few bats at Bluegrass Underground.

Not only did Stone and I love to hear these girls sing, we liked all the bantering going on between the songs.  They had the crowd very engaged.

It was a hot summer day as we pulled into the grassy parking lot of the Cumberland Caverns with hundreds of others that had arrived before us.  Colin O'Brien and The Nashville Stringy Band was performing at Bluegrass Underground http://www.bluegrassunderground.com, located in The Cumberland Caverns.   We unloaded from the car, jackets in hand, and made our way to the visitors center, where we picked up our tickets at will call.  Slowly, Stone and I with various others, took the tree lined path that lead us to the mouth of the cave, where there was already a line waiting to enter.  After mere minutes, a guide appeared and lead us into the large opening that took us into The Volcano Room, where the concert was held.  Many seats had been taken, but luckily two remained empty just four rows from the stage and right in the middle.   I quickly grabbed them, motioning for Stone to follow.   In no time the band began with Blues, John Hartford Songs, a mix of Old Times, and American Folk Styles.  On and on, one song after another they sang.  Lots of talent was down in the cave along with five hundred patrons, Stone and I, and all the pure sound totally engulfing the huge room, 333 feet below the surface.
